Mapping of marine fisheries stakeholders in Brazil

This project aims to characterize the governance system that governs the marine fisheries sector in Brazil. To this end, we are conducting a mapping of the stakeholders present in this system, which includes surveys and interviews with actors and organizations whose activities influence both marine conservation and fisheries production. The mapping will seek to identify the central themes considered bottlenecks in the management of marine fishing resources by the stakeholders interviewed and to understand the positioning of the different groups of actors in relation to these themes. At the end of the project, it is expected to obtain an overview of the governance system, capable of identifying and classifying the different groups of actors based on their interrelations, their interests and positions in relation to the challenges of fisheries management and sustainable management of the ocean in Brazil. This project is a partnership between IESA and WWF-Brasil and has a duration of 6 months (Dec 2020 - Jun 2021).

Mapping of marine fisheries stakeholders in Brazil

The project aimed to characterize the governance system of marine fisheries in Brazil. To this end, we carried out a mapping effort of the stakeholders present in this system, through a survey and interviews with actors and organizations whose activities influence both marine conservation and fisheries production. The mapping sought to identify the central themes considered as bottlenecks in the management of marine fisheries resources by the stakeholders interviewed and to understand the positioning of the different groups of actors in relation to these themes. From a better understanding of how actors and organizations - with their particular interests and visions - organize themselves to make decisions about the rules and functioning of fishing activities, we seek to contribute to the advancement of the management of marine and fisheries resources in Brazil and to the construction of fair and comprehensive public policies that take into account the complexity of this sector. The project lasted 6 months and ended in June 2021.
